Thistle Stop Spotlight: Shannon Stanton

This week, we sat down with Shannon Stanton for our first Thistle Stop Spotlight! Shannon was a resident at Thistle Farms, and while she never graduated the two-year residential program, Shannon stayed in contact with the Thistle Farms community. On November 6, 2015, she began working at the Cafe. Shannon is a published author of a book of poems titled, Unveiled Lives, Untold Truths. She aspires to be a professional writer and spoken word artist.

TSC: What do you love most about working at Thistle Stop Cafe?

SS: The customers--It seems as if everyone that walks in the door has a smile on their face.

TSC: What is your favorite menu item?

SS: The egg, avocado, tomato stack! And I really love the coffee.

TSC: What are you most thankful for during this holiday season?

SS: My friends. I do not have any family to speak of, so my friends are my family.

TSC: What motivated you to write your book?

SS: I want to empower women by telling my own story and sharing my poetry.

At the end of the interview, I noticed that Shannon had left a piece of paper. It read:

God gave me the strength to survive
My circumstance.
Thistle Stop gave me a second
I have faith and hope that no matter
How bad I may feel,
I know from personal experience that
Love does Heal.
